Angiopathy of the retina and its treatment

Classification

Angiopathy of the retina may be unilateral or bilateral. In this case, depending on how the artery affects the vein, there are three degrees:

  1. The initial 1 degree is characterized by a slight compression of the vein wall and the formation of its seal.
  2. At the second degree Vienna bend and is similar to the arc. At the same time develops the stagnation of blood and narrowing of the lumen.
  3. The third degree is accompanied by a dip of the veins in the thickness of the tissues, therefore, visually it seems that it is broken.

Symptoms

Symptoms of angiopathy of the retina include the following features:

  • the decrease in visual acuity.
  • reduction-definition and blurred;
  • complete loss of light sensitivity;
  • the development of cataracts or glaucoma, and severe myopia;
  • the appearance of white lines, lightning, or points in the field of view;
  • violation of color sensitivity;
  • narrowing of the visual fields.

Diagnosis

In order to diagnose angiopathy of retinal vessels, it is necessary to conduct ocular inspection, the results of which reveal not only the changes of arteries and veins, but the severity of the process:

  • It is noted narrowing of the arteries and dilatation, increased tortuosity of vessels.
  • In connection with the narrowing of the lumen of the artery become like copper or silver wire. It is possible to detect thrombosis, hemorrhage and microaneurysm. Fundus becomes pale.
  • Revealed extensive hemorrhage and edema of the retina and optic nerve signs of degenerative changes.

In some cases, at high risk of developing retinal detachment, the treatment using the method of laser coagulation.

To slow down the processes of transformation of vessels required is the observance of a healthy lifestyle and a balanced diet.

Angiopathy of the retina for a long period of time may occur unnoticed and with the appearance of the characteristic symptoms, the process is already irreversible. It is therefore very important to undergo annual medical examination of all specialists, in order to timely detect the disease and start treatment. In addition, attention should be paid to the functioning of the other organs (heart, kidneys, brain) as damage to vascular system and is usually accompanied by a decrease in blood supply to various tissues.
