Doppler study of the veins in the legs

Dopplerographical study of the veins of the lower extremities is a type of ultrasound examination. It is used for the diagnosis of diseases characterized by various disorders of blood circulation and functioning of blood vessels.

Indications for the procedure

Medical specialists often prescribe a Doppler as the survey in order to identify the disease, triggering the following symptoms:

  • permanent spastic convulsions affecting the leg muscles;
  • painful condition during loading on the lower limbs and great weakness after;
  • a pathological swelling of the legs, numbness, feeling of heaviness;
  • the curvature of the vessels;
  • constant sensation of heat in the legs, the local temperature increase for no apparent reason;
  • limp, not provoked by injury;
  • difficult healing of wounds, scratches, sores formed on the lower limbs;
  • pathological changes of the skin (dryness, purchase unhealthy hue);
  • the curvature of the finger phalanges;
  • a feeling of pulsation in the vessels.

A very large number of factors can provoke circulatory disorders of the lower extremities, deformation of the vessels and discomfort in the legs. Doppler as a kind of ultrasound facilitates the rapid and accurate identification of the following diseases:

  • varicose veins of the lower extremities. Ultrasound accurately shows the movement of blood through the vessels, and a monitor clearly visible locations of clusters and fluid retention;
  • thromboembolism of lung research indicates serious congestive processes in large vessels. In this case, it is recommended to diagnose the diseases of the respiratory system, particularly the lungs;
  • different formation of blood clots that can clog blood vessels and hinder the flow of the liquid, causing abscesses, pathological deposits etc. – Doppler shows that blood vessel occluded by foreign body.

Feature dopplerographical research is that it is able to accurately show the affected area of the veins of the lower extremities and pathology, they triggered, at the earliest stage of their education.

The technique of the procedure

This type of ultrasound is performed by a radiologist or sonographer in a special Cabinet. The patient must remove all metal objects and jewelry, as they can cause malfunctions in sensitive ultrasound devices. The lower limbs are completely freed from clothing to obtain the most "pure" information.

Doppler ultrasonography may be performed in various body positions. Identify a few selected areas, which are characterized by the closest possible locationblood vessels under the layers of skin: the popliteal notch, inguinal folds, ankles. Sometimes involve part of the body, which passes of the great saphenous and the femoral veins. Before the procedure, the investigated part of the body covered with a special gel. A study of Doppler requires patient immobility.
