Symptoms and signs

Symptoms of heart defects in newborns vary greatly, depending on the specific structural anomalies, the total for all is:

  • lack of oxygen (hypoxemia) and nutrients to tissues and organs;
  • congestive heart failure.

The decrease in the concentration of oxygen in arterial blood is usually from birth. While the skin of the baby becomes cyanotic hue, and the frequency of the respiratory movements becomes much more than the norm. In connection with the change in the level of metabolism in the blood accumulate toxic metabolic products having acid reaction. Develops acidosis and decompensation which can lead to infant death.
