Drug treatment of arrhythmia: a review of drugs

Atrial fibrillation

Treatment of atrial fibrillation varies depending on its shape.

In paroxysmal atrial fibrillation to prevent attacks can be applied beta-blockers, cordarone, sotahexal, propafenon tablets. For intravenous administration can be used novokainamid, but under the strict supervision of a physician. If the rhythm lasts more than 48 hours for the prevention of thrombosis and subsequent embolism is prescribed anticoagulants (warfarin).

Sinus arrhythmia of the heart can be physiological associated with breathing, change in level of physical activity, psycho-emotional stress. In this case, treatment is not required. Very often, this rhythm disturbance is a manifestation of pathological conditions of other organs and systems. The therapy must be directed at eliminating the causes and treatment of the underlying disease. Sometimes if sinus tachycardia causes discomfort, prescribed small dose of beta-blockers.
